About the Markdown Preview

The Markdown Preview renders your document as you type, with the source on one side and formatted output on the other. It supports GitHub-flavoured Markdown including tables, fenced code blocks, task lists and strikethrough, which makes it a quick way to check a README or pull request description before you publish it.

How to use the Markdown Preview

  1. Type or paste Markdown into the editor panel.
  2. Watch the rendered output update live beside it.
  3. Copy the Markdown source or the generated HTML.

Frequently asked questions

Does the preview match how GitHub renders my README?

It implements GitHub-flavoured Markdown, so tables, task lists, fenced code and autolinks render the same way. GitHub-specific extras such as issue references, @mentions and emoji shortcodes resolve only on GitHub itself.

Is my document saved anywhere?

No. Rendering happens in your browser and nothing is sent to a server, so drafts of internal documentation stay on your machine.

Can I export the HTML?

Yes. The generated HTML can be copied directly and pasted into a template, CMS or email builder.

Markdown Preview is free to use with no account, no ads and no usage limits. Every calculation runs locally in your browser, so nothing you paste is ever uploaded. See our privacy policy.
