Your PDF documents and passwords never leave your browser. Decryption and encryption are executed entirely in your local browser memory using WebAssembly. No files are uploaded to any server.

About the PDF Password Tool

The PDF Password Tool adds encryption to a PDF or removes it from one you can already open, and does both without uploading the document. Most online PDF services transmit your file to a server, which is unacceptable for payslips, contracts and medical records. Here the PDF is processed in WebAssembly inside your tab, so the document and its password stay on your machine.

How to use the PDF Password Tool

  1. Select the PDF file you want to protect or unlock.
  2. Enter the password to apply, or the current password to remove protection.
  3. Download the processed PDF.

Frequently asked questions

Can this remove a password I do not know?

No. Removing encryption requires the correct password. This is a convenience tool for documents you are authorised to open, not a cracking tool.

Is my PDF uploaded to a server?

No. The file is processed by a WebAssembly PDF engine running in your browser tab. Neither the document nor the password is transmitted or stored.

What is the difference between a user password and an owner password?

A user password is required to open the document at all. An owner password leaves the document readable but restricts actions such as printing, copying text or editing. Only the user password provides meaningful protection.

PDF Password Tool is free to use with no account, no ads and no usage limits. Every calculation runs locally in your browser, so nothing you paste is ever uploaded. See our privacy policy.
